Hydrogen is essential in many chemical reactions, particularly hydrogenation, where high-purity Hydrogen gas is crucial to avoid poisoning expensive noble metal catalysts. However, transporting Hydrogen gas is challenging and costly due to its low density, resulting in small deliveries per cylinder trolley.
Challenge
Galaxy Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. (GLPL), located in interior Maharashtra, faced issues with Hydrogen availability and purity. Unpredictable cylinder trolley deliveries and contamination from moisture and iron particles in the trolleys were significant concerns.
Solution
Multifab™ provided an indigenously developed, manufactured, and commissioned 250 Nm3/h Hydrogen from Methanol plant – a first-of-its-kind in India. This skid-mounted plant uses Methanol and Demineralized (DM) Water to produce high-purity Hydrogen gas (>99.99 v/v%). Multifab™ designed the plant with operational flexibility, enabling it to operate between 30% and 120% of its designed capacity
Results and Benefits
Improved Hydrogen Purity: The plant can achieve Hydrogen gas purity up to 99.9999% with its inbuilt H2 PSA Purification Unit, increasing production throughput by reducing catalyst poisoning.
Cost Reduction: On-site Multifab™ Hydrogen generation reduced Hydrogen costs by approximately 40%, achieving payback in under two years.
Operational Flexibility: The plant’s flexibility accommodates GLPL’s batch operations, ensuring Hydrogen availability and eliminating the need for cumbersome start-up and shutdown procedures.
